London mayor knocks Trump for golfing as US braces for Hurricane Dorian

London Mayor Sadiq Khan on Sunday knocked President Trump for golfing as Hurricane Dorian bears down on several U.S. states.

“He’s clearly busy dealing with a hurricane out on the golf course,” Khan told Politico.

Trump and Khan have exchanged criticism of each other since Trump took office in 2017, with the London mayor blasting the U.S. president as the “global poster-boy for white nationalism” in an essay published Saturday.

“These people have been inspired by mainstream politicians who subscribe to their point of view,” Khan told Politico on Sunday, adding that Trump “is a guy who amplifies racist tweets; amplifies the tweets of fascists; says things that are deeply objectionable. If I don’t stand up and call that out I think I’m doing a disservice to Londoners who chose me as their mayor.”{mosads}

Trump spent Labor Day visiting his Trump National Golf Club in Virginia as several southern states braced for Hurricane Dorian, which on Sunday reached Category 5 — the highest level possible — but has since been downgraded to Category 4.

The hurricane missed Puerto Rico and the southern part of Florida but devastated the Bahamas and is bearing down on portions of the Eastern Seaboard, with federal officials warning that strong winds are expected to affect the Carolinas and Georgia early this week.

Trump declared a state of emergency for Georgia on Sunday as Hurricane Dorian continued to head toward the U.S. Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina are also in states of emergency ahead of the storm’s attack.

An 8-year-old boy in the Bahamas has been reported as the first death from the hurricane.
