German soldiers are facing dismissal from their post in Lithuania after being accused of singing a birthday song to Adolf Hitler and making antisemitic remarks, Reuters reported Tuesday.

A German military spokesperson said that soldiers were accused of “giving offense with racist and anti-Semitic overtones and showing extremist behavior.”

A German newspaper reported that military police had to intervene in the celebration where drunk soldiers were singing “happy birthday” to Hitler, according to Reuters.

“Such behavior is not only inexcusable, but brings shame on us all,” the spokesperson said.

Thirty soldiers from the group are facing removal from NATO’s Enhanced Forward Presence mission, which was providing protection for countries against Russia, according to Reuters.

Numerous media outlets reported that some German soldiers and police were seen giving Nazi sympathies, as well, Reuters noted.
