Israel’s UN rep slams ‘one-sided’ resolution

Israel’s representative to the United Nations says the U.N.’s resolution condemning Israeli settlements will undermine peace negotiations in the Middle East.

“We don’t need another speech and we don’t need another U.N. resolution,” Danny Danon told CNN on Wednesday.

“We need renegotiations, we need Palestinians to come to the table and negotiate with Israel. And after the shameful resolution that passed at the U.N. last Friday, we are skeptical about it.”

{mosads}The U.N. Security Council on Friday voted to call for an end to Israeli settlements in disputed territories. The U.S. had the ability to veto the resolution but chose to abstain.

Danon said the U.N. resolution lets Palestinians  bypass the negotiating table.

“What the Palestinians want to get is the results of the negotiations without entering the room,” Danon said.

“The fact that the U.N. will decide about the outcome of the negotiations — how can you achieve peace that way?”

Israel has harshly criticized the Obama administration for abstaining from the U.N.’s vote, and Danon said he was “disappointed” by the decision and looking forward to working with President-elect Donald Trump instead of President Obama.

“We are not cutting ties, we are disappointed. We are disappointed [by] the administration here in Washington abandoning Israel in the Security Council,” he said.
