Robert Mueller, the former FBI director appointed to serve as the special counsel in the Russia probe, met Tuesday with House leaders investigating possible ties between the Trump campaign and Russia.
Mueller met with House Intelligence Committee ranking member Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and Rep. Mike Conaway (Texas), who took over as the top Republican for the panel’s Russia investigation earlier this year.
The meeting was meant to make sure that investigations into Russian meddling in the U.S. presidential race don’t conflict, lawmakers said in a statement after the meeting.

“We had a productive meeting with Special Counsel Mueller this afternoon to deconflict our concurrent investigations, and look forward to continuing our dialogue with him as both investigations progress,” Conaway and Schiff said in a statement.
Mueller is leading the federal investigation into possible ties between the Trump campaign and Russia, while the House Intelligence Committee and several other panels are conducting their own probes into Russia’s interference in the 2016 election.
Earlier this week, reports surfaced that Mueller would also meet with lawmakers on the Senate Judiciary Committee to safeguard conflicts between the committee’s investigation and his own.
Mueller previously met with Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr (R-N.C.) and Vice Chairman Mark Warner (D-Va.).
