DOJ watchdogs interview ‘dossier’ author Christopher Steele: report

Lawyers with the Justice Department’s Office of the Inspector General who are looking into the origins of an FBI investigation that was taken over by former special counsel Robert Mueller reportedly interviewed the author of a dossier that alleged impropriety between President Trump’s campaign and Russia.

Three attorneys with the inspector general’s office met with Christopher Steele in June during Trump’s state visit to the United Kingdom, two unidentified sources told Reuters

{mosads}One source told the news service that the investigation has apparently been extended on the basis of Steele’s information.

The Hill has reached out to the Justice Department for comment.

Steele, a former British spy, alleged potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia and that Moscow was trying to interfere with U.S. elections.

Steele compiled the dossier for Fusion GPS, a Washington political research firm hired by Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. He later shared the information he discovered with the British government.

He has emerged as a top GOP target, with congressional Republicans and Trump repeatedly slamming him for starting an investigation they believe was improper.
