Capitol Police arrest man over security breach at perimeter fencing

Capitol Police on Monday said they arrested a Virginia man who they say breached perimeter fencing on the Capitol grounds Sunday evening.

“A man is in custody this afternoon after he entered a restricted area inside the perimeter fence. At 11:38 pm a man scaled the fence along First Street, SW,” police said in the statement.

Authorities identified the man as 22-year-old Marc Beauchamp of Henrico, Va., saying he was arrested for unlawful entry.

Capitol Police said that while the investigation is ongoing, they believe this was an isolate incident.

Further details were shared on Twitter.

Police said Beauchamp illegally parked a vehicle on the grass near the Lincoln Memorial, more than a mile from the Capitol.

The security incident follows the Jan. 6 insurrection and an April 2 car attack outside the Capitol.
