A second ex-aide to former Vice President Mike Pence has reportedly met with the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.
CNN reported on Tuesday that Greg Jacob, a former key aide who worked for Pence, met with the House panel earlier that day.
The network saw Jacob departing a meeting room on Capitol Hill that the panel utilizes for witness interviews, and a source familiar with the matter confirmed to the network he was set to speak with the committee on Tuesday.
Jacob served as counsel to Pence and as a deputy assistant to former President Trump, according to his LinkedIn page. He played a central role in opposing those who were encouraging Pence not to certify the Electoral College results of the 2020 presidential election, according to CNN.
Jacob was also reportedly part of the group of people opposing conservative lawyer John Eastman, who allegedly advised Trump and his team on using Pence to push back on the election results and encouraging state legislatures to reject electors from specific states.
The Washington Post reported in October that as the Jan. 6 riot was occurring, Eastman emailed Jacob to blame the attack on Pence.
“The ‘siege’ is because YOU and your boss did not do what was necessary to allow this to be aired in a public way so that the American people can see for themselves what happened,” Eastman reportedly wrote to Jacob.
Jacob’s contact with the committee comes after CNN reported on Monday that former Pence chief of staff Mark Short testified before the House panel last week. A source familiar with the matter told the network that the meeting was lengthy.
