ACTA countries reveal little as talks conclude
Rather, the agreement will “establish an international framework for [countries’] efforts to more effectively combat the proliferation of counterfeiting and piracy, which undermines legitimate trade and the sustainable development of the world economy.”
ACTA complaints have also centered around the claim that the
negotiations have not been transparent. The negotiating partners noted
in their statement that some “representatives of civil society” were
invited to participate in parts of the talks this round.
The talks in Switzerland mark the ninth round of ACTA talks. Negotiating countries include the United States, Australia, Canada, the European Union, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Morocco, New Zealand, Singapore and Switzerland.
