Leading technologists in town to talk cloud with Obama administration

The technologists will also meet with Sens. Mark Warner (D-Va.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) to discuss cybersecurity legislation and how government policies can promote innovation. As part of the event, BSA is releasing a decision guide that aims to help federal managers decide which data is appropriate for storage in the cloud.

For example, Holleyman said social media applications and others with lower levels of sensitivity are more suited for the cloud, while classified data crucial to national security might not be. He also characterized the administration’s efforts to reduce the number of federal data centers as a cloud initiative.

Monday evening’s agenda includes a meeting with Zients and federal chief information officer Vivek Kundra, followed by a meeting with Chopra.

On Tuesday, the CTOs will meet with both senators as well as officials from the National Institute of Standards and Technology, Schmidt, the General Services Administration’s cloud computing team and Daniel Weitzner, associate administrator of the Office of Policy Analysis and Development at the National Telecommunications and Information Administration.
