Facebook names Erskine Bowles to board of directors

In a statement, Bowles called Facebook a “transformative force in the world.”  

Bowles also served as president of the University of North Carolina system from 2006 to 2010. He was appointed the administrator of the Small Business Administration in 1993 and has also served on the White House’s National Security Council and National Economic Council.

He started his career at Morgan Stanley, which he left to co-found his own investment firm.

Bowles joins Facebook board members Mark Zuckerberg; Marc Andreessen of Andreessen Horowitz; Jim Breyer of Accel Partners; Donald E. Graham, chairman and CEO of The Washington Post Co.; Reed Hastings, chairman and CEO of Netflix; and Peter Thiel of Clarium Capital and Founders Fund.
