Bloggers in China are asking Secretary of State John Kerry to help them overcome government restrictions on the Internet.
Kerry met with four bloggers at the U.S. embassy in Beijing on Saturday during a short trip to China, according to a story by Bloomberg.
{mosads}The Internet is heavily censored in China, and President Xi Jinping in November unveiled a new crackdown at a Communist Party meeting.
The bloggers told Kerry Internet restrictions have become worse since the meeting, and they also complained that U.S. companies such as Twitter have aided the government. Kerry responded, according to Bloomberg, that he would look into the matter and that it was the first time he had heard this complaint.
Kerry told the group that he had urged China’s leaders to support Internet freedom.
