FCC’s Wireline Bureau chief steps down

{mosads}Under Gillett, the commission overhauled its $8 billion Universal Service Fund, transitioning a portion of the fund to pay for expanding high-speed Internet access instead of telephone service.

Veach will head the bureau as it sets up the Internet subsidy, called the Connect America Fund, and winds down the old telephone subsidies.

The announcement marks the latest in an exodus of top-level FCC staff in recent weeks. The agency’s general counsel and the chiefs of the Wireless and Public Safety Bureaus have all stepped down in the past month.
