Snow delay for highly anticipated Internet regs vote

Snow will delay a high-profile vote on net neutrality — but only by an hour, the Federal Communications Commission announced Wednesday. 

The FCC’s open meeting is now scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Friday, where the commission will vote on Chairman Tom Wheeler’s proposal to reclassify broadband Internet under regulations governing traditional telephones in order to enforce stronger rules. 

{mosads}At the meeting, the commission will also vote on an order to preempt a pair of state laws that restrict the expansion of city-run Internet networks. 

FCC meetings are typically held at 10:30 a.m. The FCC initially moved the meeting up by an hour earlier this week. Snow forced it back to its original 10:30 a.m. time, according to Gigi Sohn, a special counsel for Wheeler.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory from the Baltimore and Washington area from midnight until noon Thursday, with the most snow coming during the morning commute. It predicted one to two inches of snow. The Washington Post’s Capital Weather Gang put that number in the range of 1 to 3 inches.
