An association of web companies has hired an aide to Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) to serve as a top government affairs employee.

Ellen Schrantz, who works as counsel to Issa, will join the Internet Association as Director of Government Affairs and Counsel. Schrantz previously worked for the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, which Issa previously chaired.

{mosads}”As we continue to engage on policy issues that impact the evolving Internet economy, Ellen’s extensive Congressional experience will be an important asset to our team,” said Gina Woodworth, the group’s vice president of Public Policy and Government Affairs, said in a statement.

The group’s president, Michael Beckerman, said in a statement that Schrantz “will be a great benefit to our member companies as we continue advocating for policies that promote and protect Internet growth and innovation.”

The trade group noted in a release that Schrantz has worked on policy projects related to the Internet of Things and the on-demand economy, both topics with burgeoning interest in Washington. The Internet of Things will likely be a hotly debated topic as lawmakers look to free up more spectrum, and some in Congress are eyeing ways to create a safety net for workers at on-demand economy companies.

The Internet Association’s membership includes many recognizable digital brands, including Amazon, Uber and Netflix. This year, it has spent $720,000 lobbying on patent reform, encryption policy and trade — among other issues.
