Roku rolls out post-election ads that poke fun at Romney

The ads are part of Roku’s $10 million “Keep Streaming America” ad campaign that will run in six cities, including New York, Chicago and Los Angeles, according to Mashable. Roku unveiled two separate mockups of the new ads on Tuesday in case the election went the other way and Romney won the presidential race.

A Roku spokeswoman said the ad is just one of many the company is using to encourage people to watch TV and movies via its set-top boxes, and it didn’t have a preference for either candidate.

“The Mitt board is only one of dozens of TV-enjoyment-centric headlines on billboards used to support the ad idea of encouraging folks to stream and enjoy great entertainment in an easy way,” Ha Thai, a spokeswoman for Roku, said in an email. “We didn’t care who won the election, and we printed boards for either outcome of the election.”

Lis Smith, a spokeswoman for President Obama’s reelection campaign, tweeted a photo of one of the Roku ads on a billboard in Chicago and commented: “Clear Channel moves fast!”

The other ads in Roku’s campaign take the same sarcastic tone and encourage Americans to watch more TV and movies, Mashable said.
