Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg said on Wednesday that he would be open to testifying before Congress.
In an interview with Recode, Zuckerberg said he understands there’s a lot Congress needs to know and he would be open to testify if he is the right person to speak to lawmakers.
“There are lots of different topics that Congress needs and wants to know about, and the way that we approach it is that our responsibility is to make sure that they have access to all of the information that they need to have,” he said during the interview. {mosads}
“So I’m open to doing it if I’m the right [person],” Zuckerberg added.
His willingness to appear before Congress comes as a growing number of lawmakers, including Sens. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and John Kennedy (R-La.) ask that he testify before Congress to explain Facebook’s dealings with Cambridge Analytica.
Zuckerberg’s platform suspended its relationship with Cambridge Analytica last Friday after it came to light that the British research firm took user data from Facebook without permission.
