Amazon may announce Tuesday new headquarters in NYC, DC

Amazon.com Inc. is reportedly planning to announce on Tuesday its decision to split its second headquarters between two cities, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday.

The company reportedly made the surprise decision to pick two sites — New York City’s Long Island City and Northern Virginia’s Crystal City south of Washington, D.C.— for the new headquarters instead of just one.

{mosads}The Hill has reached out to Amazon for comment.

The decision follows a yearlong contest among 20 finalist cities to host the new headquarters dubbed “HQ2.”

Critics have raised questions about how many jobs the two new locations will generate. The tech giant’s current headquarters in Seattle employ more than 45,000 people.

People familiar with the decision told The Wall Street Journal that other cities may also receive major Amazon sites.

The new headquarters follows reports that the company is cutting benefits for warehouse workers and other hourly employees after announcing that it will raise its minimum wage for its workers to $15 per hour.
