East coast Verizon customers hit with ‘texting outage’

Many Verizon cellphone users on the east coast on Tuesday morning experienced a “texting outage.”

{mosads}The carrier’s customer support department confirmed the outage in a statement on Twitter.

“Our technicians a fully aware we have a ton of customers that are being effected, and we’re working non-stop to get this matter resolved as soon as possible,” Verizon Wireless Customer Support tweeted.

The company has not indicated how many people have been impacted by the issue. It did not give an estimate for how long the “outage” would continue.

“At this time we do not have a time frame available,” the customer support account said in a separate tweet. “We have a ton of customers that are being effected by this, and we’re working non-stop to get this matter resolved promptly.

“We recommend to periodically restart your devices as this issue can be resolved at any time,” Verizon added.

Down Detector, a website that tracks cellphone carriers and power outages, produced a map detailing where the outages are mostly occurring. The site said most recent reports were coming from Lansing, Mich., New York and Philadelphia, among other cities.

Business Insider noted that outages similar to these have happened in the past. In September, a Verizon texting outage impacted parts of the Northeast, Midwest and South.
