Hulu and Spotify team up with surprise bundled service offer
Spotify has teamed up with Hulu to offer current customers both services under one existing monthly fee, the companies announced Tuesday.
In a press release, Spotify’s developers announced that Hulu’s library of TV shows and movies would be included starting Tuesday with Spotify’s existing $9.99 monthly membership fee.
“Devour Hulu’s library of hit TV series and films, current shows from every major U.S. broadcast network, and acclaimed Hulu Originals to your heart’s desire at no extra charge. That’s right, you are getting Hulu on us,” the company wrote.
{mosads}The companies previously offered a bundle in 2018 that allowed users to include Hulu membership with their Spotify account for a monthly fee of $12.99. Spotify wrote in Tuesday’s press release that those users would see their monthly bill reduced under the new pay scale.
The offer will exist through June 10, according to the press release, which did not indicate whether the price for dual membership will increase in the future.
Hulu’s partnership with Spotify comes as the video streaming site’s largest competitor, Netflix, has signed a number of high-profile deals in recent months, including for a documentary about Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and her successful congressional campaign, which the company acquired for a record $10 million last month.
Netflix also announced a multiyear deal last year with former President Obama and his wife, Michelle Obama, who are set to produce television projects and films for the online service.
“President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama have entered into a multi-year agreement to produce films and series for Netflix, potentially including scripted series, unscripted series, docu-series, documentaries, and features,” the company announced last year.
Hulu reduced its pricing earlier this year after Netflix raised its monthly fee.
