Spotify down for thousands of users

Music streaming service Spotify was down for hours on Wednesday for tens of thousands of users.

The outage began around Wednesday morning, with more than 48,600 users reporting issues around the same time at 9:40 a.m. EDT, according to outage tracking site Downdetector.com.

The issues appeared to be resolved just around noon Wednesday, when Spotify wrote on X, “All clear-thanks for your patience,” and directed users to its support account if they needed further assistance.

X was filled with hundreds of posts from users expressing frustrations with the outage. Several users joked about the situation, with one user posting a photo of the Spotify logo on top of a grave.

Users said they had issues loading the app and desktop site, using Spotify’s search features and playing or hearing songs. Some users faced issues getting access to Spotify’s support site.

Spotify did not expand upon what might have prompted the outages but told the Associated Press that “reports of this being a security hack are completely inaccurate.”

The streaming service has more than 675 million users, including 263 subscribers in more than 180 markets.
