Facebook is requiring its employees to be fully vaccinated before they return to the office.
The requirement is for anyone at Facebook’s U.S. offices and the implementation of the policy will depend on “local conditions and regulations,” according to the statement from Facebook’s Vice President of People Lori Goler on Wednesday.
There will be medical and religious exemptions for those who qualify.
“We continue to work with experts to ensure our return to office plans prioritize everyone’s health and safety,” the statement reads.
The statement is similar to an email sent to Google employees on Wednesday stating a vaccine requirement would be implemented for those coming back to the office.
“The implementation will vary according to local conditions and regulations, and will not apply until vaccines are widely available in your area. You’ll get guidance from your local leads about how this will affect you, and we’ll also share more details on an exceptions process for those who cannot be vaccinated for medical or other protected reasons,” the Google email said.
Google also pushed back opening its offices until Oct. 18 due to the delta variant.
The push for vaccine requirements comes as cases rise in the U.S. and coronavirus restrictions are being reimplemented in some parts of the country.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is advising even fully vaccinated individuals to wear masks in indoor settings where transmission of the virus is high.
