Twitter testing shopping feature
Twitter is testing a shopping feature that allows users to purchase items directly from a business’s account without leaving the platform, the social media company announced Wednesday.
Its Shop Module will roll out with a “handful of brands” in the U.S. on iOS devices, but the company said it plans to unveil additional shopping-focused features after the pilot program.
The Shop Module feature gives businesses a place at the top of their accounts to showcase products through a carousel of images for users to browse through and make purchases.
It is the latest venture from the social media company, which announced earlier this year a goal of doubling its revenue by the end of 2023.
In recent months, Twitter has announced several paid options, including a subscription model that offers exclusive features for a monthly fee.
The rollout of the Twitter Blue subscription followed the social media giant’s launch of ticketed options for its audio room feature, Spaces. The platform also announced it is exploring a Super Follows feature that would allow users to charge followers for exclusive content.
