FCC responds to Barton allegations on misquoting telecom industry

The press release contained their positive remarks about the net-neutrality effort but not their negative remarks.

Genachowski responded by saying the handout “included links to the full statements.”

“I further understand that the public statements were widely distributed by the organizations themselves and could be easily obtained by interested parties,” he said.

Public Knowledge, a consumer group, was also partially quoted in the FCC materials, but Barton did not mention that.

Barton and other Republicans are opposed to net-neutrality rules and feel the agency strong-armed the telecom industry into swallowing the regulations. The FCC will vote on the rules on Dec. 21.
