GOP freshman rep. favors using Facebook to explain votes
The former Michigan state legislator gained attention for his social-media use when he began explaining all his votes on Facebook and posting information about office operations for his constituents to see.
Legislation characterized as “a bill to end child neglect may actually do something very different than what title of the bill suggests,” he said. In those moments, he said it’s useful to use Facebook to explain a “no” vote.
Amash also said lawmakers are using Facebook to listen, not just to talk.
“Our elected officials are paying attention to what’s being posted. It’s not only for me to convey information but to receive information,” he said.
Amash appeared to be on the same page as his hosts, save one exception: broadband regulations. Noyes asked Amash to weigh in on net neutrality, a policy the company supports.
“I’m very fearful of government regulation of the Internet and of government controls, even if the intent is good,” Amash replied.
