Privacy groups file complaint with FTC, call for tougher scrutiny of ‘stealth data collection’ online

The groups want the FTC to require companies to allow customers to opt-in before tracking them. They also want the FTC to ensure consumers receive fair financial compensation for the use of their data.

They’re also asking the FTC to put together a report for Congress within six months “that informs consumers and policymakers about the privacy risks and consumer protection issues involved with the real-time tracking, data profiling and auctioning of consumer profiles.”
