Locked-down Boston closes ‘T’

Boston’s “T” subway system has been closed to prevent an escape by suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing. 

One of the two brothers suspected in the bombings was killed overnight, but younger brother Dzhokhar Tsarnaev remains at large. 

{mosads}Authorities have asked people in the greater Boston area to remain indoors, effectively locking down the city. 

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) suspended service of the subway system. The agency said Friday that it was halting rail and bus lines as police search for Tsarnaev after a bloody shootout late Thursday night that left a police officer dead. 

The MBTA said Friday it was halting all of its subway trains, light rails and buses in response to the police activity.

“ALL Service on ALL Modes Currently SUSPENDED,” the agency said on its website. “Please check T-Alerts, MBTA.com and @MBTAGM on Twitter for updates.” 

The MBTA carries more than 1 million people daily on all of its modes of transit.
 
The agency suspended service on its Green line in the immediate aftermath of the Monday bombings, but Friday was the first time since the twin explosions near the Boston Marathon’s finish line that service was completely stopped.
