{mosads}Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) tweeted a picture of himself and Foxx meeting in his office last week — the latest sign that the Charlotte mayor is enjoying a bipartisan reception on Capitol Hill that has been rare among Obama’s other nominees.
Transportation Secretary LaHood has said that he will resign as soon as Foxx is confirmed by the Senate.
Elsewhere on Capitol Hill this week, the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee will hold hearings this week about consolidations in the airline industry and the U.S. freight rail.
The hearing on airline mergers on Wednesday comes as U.S. Airways and American Airlines are seeking approval of their proposed consolidation. Officials from both airlines are scheduled to testify before the Senate committee.
In the House, the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee will hold a hearing on Tuesday about the Department of Transportation’s proposal for enacting stricter rules for scheduling truck and other commercial drivers.
Also, the House Homeland Security Committee will hold a hearing on Tuesday about the Transportation Security Administration’s development of a proposed “smart” identification card for port workers, which has been behind schedule.
