Flooding at Trenton station delays reopening of Philly-to-NY Amtrak service
{mosads}”As the water levels recede, Amtrak engineering forces will make repairs
to the track and signal control infrastructure,” Amtrak continued. “Updates will continue to be provided and an estimate for restoration of
full service south of New York is not yet available.”
Amtrak originally canceled trains south of Washington, but when forecasters predicted the storm would hit New York on Sunday as a Category 1 storm carrying winds that could top 90 miles per hour, trains in the Northeast were canceled too.
However, by the time Irene reached the area, it had been downgraded to a tropical storm.
Officials in New York and Philadelphia also shut down local busses and subways in anticipation of Irene, but service in both cities has since been restored.
