Lawmakers in each chamber have proposed long-term extensions of the highway funding, but they have produced vastly different plans. The House has proposed a six-year, $235 billion bill, while the Senate has suggested a two-year, $109 billion bill.
Advocates generally like the length of the House proposal, but they favor the Senate’s higher annual spending levels.
