TSA plans moment of silence for slain agent

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is planning to hold a moment of silence at U.S. airports on Friday to honor one of its agents who was killed last week in the shooting at the Los Angeles International Airport.

TSA officials said airport security workers at all U.S. airports would stop checking passengers at 9:20 a.m. Pacific Time on Friday morning to honor 39-year-old LAX shooting victim Gerardo Hernandez.

{mosads}Hernandez was killed last Friday by a rifle-wielding gunman who opened fire about 9:20 a.m Pacific at the TSA’s checkpoint at the Los Angeles airport.

The shooter, who was believed to be targeting TSA employees, killed Hernandez and injured two of the agency’s other workers.

TSA officials said Hernandez was the first employee of the agency to be killed in the line of duty.

The Los Angeles shooting has prompted calls from some TSA supporters to allow some of the agency’s workers to carry guns.
