No transportation jobs added in October

The transportation sector did not gain any new jobs in October, according to statistics released by the Department of Labor on Friday.

The Labor Department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics said there were 4,493,600 jobs in transportation in October, the same number that were available in September. The figure was part of a 204,000 increase in overall jobs in October as the national unemployment rate jumped to 7.3 percent.

{mosads}Statistics were delayed for September until late last month because of the federal government shutdown.

The transportation sector with the highest employment was “warehouse and storage,” which had 700,200 jobs in October, compared to  698,600 in September.

The lowest employment sector was “scenic and sightseeing transportation,” which had 26,200 jobs in October, compared to 26,000 in September.

The airline industry saw 444,800 jobs in October, compared to 444,600 in September.

Rail companies had 230,200 jobs in October, compared to 230,500 in September.
