Obama to visit New Orleans port
President Obama is scheduled to tour the Port of New Orleans and give a speech on the importance of investing in infrastructure on the U.S. economy on Friday.
Obama is expected to be joined by Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx for the trip, making the duo’s second joint appearance at a major U.S. port this year.
{mosads}Obama and Foxx traveled to the Jacksonville, Fla., port this summer in one of the Department of Transportation chief’s first public appearances.
The White House said Obama would use the New Orleans port appearance to “discuss the importance of taking measures to grow the economy and create jobs by increasing our exports.”
The White House has frequently used port and shipping terminals as background for its arguments about federal spending priorities in recent months.
Vice President Biden visited a CSX freight rail terminal in Ohio earlier this week, and he also toured the Charleston, S.C., port with Foxx in September.
