Transportation sector adds 31,000 jobs
The transportation sector gained nearly 31,000 jobs in November as the national unemployment rate fell to seven percent, according to statistics released by the Department of Labor on Friday.
The Labor Department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics said there were 4,534,600 jobs in transportation in November, compared to 4,504,100 in October.
The figure was part of a 203,000 increase in overall jobs in November.
{mosads}The transportation sector with the highest employment was “couriers and messengers,” which had 553,400 jobs in November, compared to 544,800 in October.
The lowest employment sector was “scenic and sightseeing transportation,” which lost 500 jobs. The category had 24,800 jobs in November, which was down from 25,300 in September.
The airline industry saw added 3,400 jobs in November, going from 446,400 in October to 449,800 last month.
Rail employment was flat, with 229,900 jobs in both October and November.
