Low-cost airlines expand to Asian markets

A group of low cost airlines is planning to expand their service to Asian markets, The Wall Street Journal reports.

Most of the new routes will be centered at airports in Taiwan and Hong Kong, according to the report.

The airlines are also said to be considering options for adding services to places in Southeast Asia, where low cost travel is becoming more popular.

China Airlines Chairman Huang-Hsiang Sun told the paper that it made more sense to offer cheaper flights to popular destinations like Taiwan right now, however.

“Taiwan is in an ideal location for low-cost carriers because the flight time to most destinations in southeast and northeast Asia is within four hours,” he said.
