Amtrak preps for Northeast storm

Amtrak is preparing for a storm that is expected to drop several inches of snow on its most heavily traveled tracks, the company said Thursday.

The Northeast, which is home to Amtrak’s most popular routes, is forecasted to receive between six and eight inches of snow on Thursday night and Friday.

{mosads}The company said it was activating its severe weather command center in Wilmington, Del. and positioning extra locomotives and maintenance equipment along tracks in the Northeast corridor.

The preparations also include hiring contractors to assist tree trimming crews that will be called to clear tracks and moving staffers from other areas to the Northeast.

Amtrak said it was also operate trains on its northeast corridor and Acela high-speed routes on a modified schedule during the snow storm.
