US Air, American Airlines beginning integration

US Airways and American Airlines will begin sharing codes on their flights, which means passengers can book travel on one airline and travel on the other, the companies announced this week.

The code sharing will begin on Jan. 23, according to the announcement.

“This codeshare marks another step toward providing more convenient travel choices for customers, including service to more destinations, improved schedule options and a truly global network,” American President Scott Kirby President. “Implementing this codeshare so early in the integration process allows us to begin realizing significant revenue synergies, which are estimated to exceed $1 billion annually by 2015.”

US Air and American have said their merger will create a company that is valued at $18 billion.
