US-Mexico high-speed railway proposed
Officials in Texas and Mexico are considering building a high-speed railway between San Antonio and Monterrey, the San Antonio Express News reports.
Officials say it could come to fruition within 10 years, according to the report. The proposal was discussed with Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx during a recent trip by the DOT chief to Texas.
{mosads}“I think we’re going to get it done,” Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) said after the meeting with Foxx, according to the paper.
“It’s a long-term vision, but I think we took a very important step here,” Cuellar continued.
The cross-border railway plan calls for passengers on travels crossing international boundaries to be “pre-cleared” by customs officials, the paper said.
The trip is estimated to take about two hours on a high-speed train.
