A Danish cargo ship lost more than 500 containers during a voyage at sea, CNN reports.
{mosads}The ship was traveling in the Bay of Biscay near France last week when it began encountering “hurricane-force winds,” according to the report.
Crew members aboard the ship discovered the containers were missing when the vessel, known as the Svendborg Maersk, arrived at the port of Málaga, Spain.
CNN reported the Svendborgh Maersk’s loss was the largest number of containers ever reported missing in a single shipping incident.
Maersk Vice President of Operations Palle Laursen told the network his company was examining its policies for carrying cargo during extreme weather “to avoid similar incidents in the future.”
