Airport to be renamed after Dwight Eisenhower

Officials in Wichita, Kan., are moving to rename the city’s Mid-Continent Airport after former President Dwight Eisenhower, CNN reports.

If the name change is approved, Eisenhower would join fellow former president Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush, Ronald Reagan and John F. Kennedy in having an airport named after them.

{mosads}The name change will have to be approved by the Federal Aviation Administration before it can take effect.

Eisenhower fans in Wichita began petitioning for the airport name change last year, according to the report.

Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer said it was fitting for the airport to be renamed after Eisenhower, who was a native of nearby Abilene, Kan.

“We looked at the president and his contributions to this country,” Brewer told the network. “He was a phenomenal man and president during some challenging times, and [naming the airport after him] was quite fitting.”
