Committee to consider renaming dam after former lawmaker

The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee is scheduled to mark up a bill that would rename a dam in Illinois after a former member of the panel.

The measure, H.R. 3678, would “redesignate the lock and dam located in Modoc, Illinois, commonly known as the Kaskaskia Lock and Dam, as the ‘Jerry F. Costello Lock and Dam,” according a description of the legislation released by the panel on Thursday.

Costello (D-Ill.) was a long time member of the House Transportation Committee before he retired in 2012.

{mosads}Costello served 12 terms in Congress before he announced he would retire in lieu of seeking re-election before the 2012 election.

The bill to rename the dam after Costello is being sponsored by his successor, Rep. Bill Enyart (D-Ill.).
