Ocean plane crash movie postponed

An Australian movie about a plane crash over ocean waters is being postponed in light of the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, The Associated Press reports.

Sydney, Australia-based movie studio Arclight Films said the plotline of its proposed film “Deep Water” was not identical to the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of the Malaysia Air flight, but the managing director of the movie said it would probably have hit too close to home with the plane still missing.

“We’re delaying it out of respect for what’s going on,” Managing Director Gary Hamilton said, according to the report.

{mosads}The Malaysia Air plan has been missing since it was last contacted by air traffic controllers about an hour into flight from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Beijing, China on March 8.

The disappearance of the plane, which was carrying 239 passengers, led to a multinational search that has lasted for more than two weeks.

Malaysia officials announced this week that they were confident the airplane crashed in the south Indian Ocean, but no wreckage has been found yet.

Investigators initially believed the plane had crashed into the Gulf of Thailand, where it was located when its pilots last had radio contact with air traffic controllers.

Officials later came to believe the plane’s radar equipment was intentionally turned off and the jet flew several hours after backtracking from its intended flight path.

Some relatives of passengers that were on board the plane held out hope that their family members could have possibly survived because no wreckage had been found in the water until this week’s announcement about investigators’ theory of the missing plate’s fate.

Officials from France, Australian and China have all identified potential debris from the missing plane in the Indian Ocean, which is more than 1,000 miles from where the flight was last detected by air traffic controllers.
