Transportation chief heading to Alaska

Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx is planning to visit Alaska as he pushes Congress to approve a long-term highway funding bill when it returns from recess.

Transportation Department officials said Wednesday that Foxx would spend Thursday and Friday in Alaska.

{mosads}The Transportation chief is scheduled to participate in a Matanuska-Susitna (Mat-Su) Borough transportation meeting with Sen. Mark Begich (D-Alaska) on Thursday and address the Alaska Municipal League on Friday.

{mosads}Foxx is also scheduled to hold a town-hall meeting in Unalakleet, Alaska, on Friday afternoon.

Transportation officials said Foxx would “discuss the benefits of the GROW AMERICA Act and emphasize the need for long-term transportation funding” during his trip.
