Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx is planning to travel to South Dakota with the likely new chairman of the Senate committee that overseas transportation issues, Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.).
Thune will likely take the gavel of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, when Republicans take control of the upper chamber in January.
His office said Friday that Thune will hold a roundtable Tuesday with Foxx, South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard (R) “and several other South Dakota transportation stakeholders.”
{mosads}Thune’s office said “the event will highlight various transportation priorities in South Dakota and the importance of an efficient transportation system to move freight and agriculture commodities to market.”
Thune and Foxx will also tour Ellsworth Air Force Base and freight rail line near Chamberlain, the incoming Senate transportation chief’s office said Friday.
Foxx and Thune will also hold a pair of media availability during the DOT chief’s visit to South Dakota.
