FAA investigating near collision at NY airport

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating a near collision between two airplanes at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, Reuters reports

The incident occurred over the weekend when a JetBlue Airways plane was cleared for takeoff on a runaway that was being crossed by a Caribbean Airlines flight that was landing.

Air traffic controllers asked the Caribbean Air plane to stop to allow the JetBlue flight to takeoff, but the Caribbean pilot missed the instruction and taxied directly into the JetBlue plane’s path, according to the report.

FAA officials said the two planes came within 2,800 feet of each other before the potential collision was avoided, according to the report.
