Phoenix light rail ridership record set during Super Bowl

Phoenix, Ariz.’s Valley Metro light rail system experienced record ridership during the National Football League’s Super Bowl weekend, according to the agency that operates the railway. 

“Nearly doubled highest-ever @valleymetro LR ridership day on Sat.,1/31 with126k boardings,” the agency tweeted after the championship game. 

“Avg Sat. is 35k.TY riders! #SBCentral #SB49,” the agency continued. 

{mosads}The Valley Metro light rail system, which opened in 2008, normally averages about 44,000 riders on weekdays and about 30,000 on weekends. 

The system is normally the 12th busiest light rail network in the U.S.
