Plane slides off runway at NY airport

A Delta Airlines flight that was landing at New York’s LaGuardia Airport slid off the runway, according to media reports. 

{mosads}The situation led the Federal Aviation Administration to close LaGuardia, which could cause further chaos to travel plans for thousands of people.

Airlines have cancelled more than 3,000 flights that were scheduled for Thursday amid a widespread snowstorm that has stretched from the Northeast to parts of Texas. 

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates LaGuardia Airport, said all flights at New York airport have been cancelled for the near future. 

“The runways at #LGA are currently closed due to an aircraft incident that occurred about 11 am today,” the agency tweeted. “Call your airline to reconfirm.”

The flight, Delta Flight 1086, was arriving from Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. 

The plane was a McDonnell-Douglas 88 aircraft, according to reports.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said it was keeping an eye on things.
