Boeing shows off ‘Dreamliner’ after rocky rollout
Airplane manufacturer Boeing is showing off its 787 “Dreamliner” model in a new viral video after a rocky inital rollout that involved the plane being grounded for two weeks in 2013.
The Chicago, Ill.-based company released the video ahead of the upcoming Paris Air Show for its 787-9, which is a slightly longer version of the Dreamliner model that can fly farther than the original.
The video shows pilots practicing tricks on a 787-9 that has been purchased by Vietnam Airlines, including taking off and flying nearly vertically before the plane levels into a cruising altitude and ultimately lands safely.

Boeing said the planes it is planning to have on display will illustrate the benefits of the both the 777 and the Dreamliner.
“Boeing Commercial Airplanes designs and builds excellent airplanes that provide passenger-preferred comfort, fly farther on less fuel, reduce airport noise and cost less to operate,” the company said in a post on its website. “That high level of performance gives both airlines and passengers a better way to fly.”
The 787 was rolled out initially in 2011 to much fanfare by Boeing, which touted the airplane’s light weight and long distance range as major developments in commercial aviation.
But the Dreamliner’s debut was marred by a series of incidents in 2013 that led the Federal Aviation Administration and other worldwide aviation agencies to ground the plane. Several early models experienced electrical problems involving lithium-ion batteries that were used in their construction.
The two-week grounding of the airplane raised doubts about the safety of the Dreamliner that Boeing has worked since to overcome.
