Frontier Airlines mocks joke 2016 candidate ‘Deez Nuts’
Frontier Airlines is seeking to capitalize on internet buzz about a joke 2016 presidential named “Deez Nuts.”
“Deez Fares Are Nuts,” the company said in an online advertisement. “Get 50 percent Off with Promo Code: DEEZNUTS.”
The ad is referencing paperwork that has been filed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) by a 15-year-old Iowa resident for a candidate named “Deez Nuts.”
{mosads}The joke candidate became an internet sensation after a poll showed Deez Nuts would garner 9 percent support in a North Carolina in a hypothetical three-way matchup with Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton and Republican leader Donald Trump.
Frontier is the latest discount airline to reference political events in its online advertising.
Ultra low-fare competitor Spirit Airlines famously offered a 9-9-9 sale named after former Republican presidential candidate’s Herman Cain’s ubiquitous tax plan during the 2012 election cycle. Spirit also offered its passengers an “Affordable Fare Act” with the kicker “if you like your low fare, you can keep your low fare” during the rollout of President Obama’s controversial healthcare law in 2013.
