Transportation sector gains 6,400 jobs in November
The transportation sector gained 6,400 jobs in November as the national unemployment remained steady at 5 percent, according to statistics released by the Department of Labor on Friday.
The Labor Department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) said there were 4,787,900 jobs in transportation in November, compared to 4,781,500 in October.
The increase was part of a 211,000 increase in overall jobs in November.
{mosads}The transportation sector with the highest employment increase was “support activities for transportation,” which had 653,700 jobs in November, compared to 647,500 in October.
The biggest drop in employment in the sector was in transit and ground passenger transportation, which lost 1,800 jobs last month. The transit industry had 468,600 jobs in November, down from 470,400 in October.
The airline industry lost 200 jobs in November, going from 454,400 in October to 454,200 last month.
Railroads gained 1,200 jobs last month, going from 234,400 in October to 235,600 in November.
The trucking sector gained 2,300 jobs, going from 1,453,200 in October to 1,455,500 in November.
