DC flight restrictions expanded for final Obama State of the Union

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is expanding flight restrictions over Washington, D.C., for President Obama’s final State of the Union address on Jan. 12, 2016. 

The agency said it is extending the restrictions, 8-11 p.m., at the request of the Department of Homeland Security. 

“Any person who knowingly or willfully violates the rules concerning operations in this airspace may be subject to certain criminal penalties under [federal law],” the agency said in a flight advisory. 

{mosads}”Pilots who do not adhere to the following procedures may be intercepted, detained and interviewed by Law Enforcement/Security Personnel,” the advisory continued.  

Obama is scheduled to speak to lawmakers in the Capitol beginning around 9 p.m.
